I don't know that Cincinnati Bell is utilizing GPON for their service delivery. It is a quickly evolving technology, but there are limitations, as with any other system. The current FTTH standard is called GPON.

I manage/operate Fiber to the Home properties. But every other Ookla test will show 500 down, 200 up almost every time.Īny suggestions on how to handle this with my ISP? He did duggest I try the speed test at and that also showed 197 down, 72 up. The tech I talked to understood, but there is only so much he can do. Now I have purposefully saturated my network card and artificially limited my network card and ran that test and each time it tells me I am doing fine which tells me that the test is false. I have already filed an FCC complaint last night and that got me a call today with them telling me they only care about the approved site, which is their speedtest.

I don't expect to hit 1gig down and 250 up at all times.īut I do expect to see at least 700 down and 200 up minimum to be considered at least close to what I am playing for. I ran multiple tests using the automated system over 2 days time and the results you can see in the graph are pretty obvious. Not only are the results much lower than the advertised amount, which I understand its based on worlds greatest conditions, but you can also see the results are rather all over the place. So far the speed testing there matches what I see in real world situations. I found a site called which claims to be a pure speed test with none of the bullshit graphics. Never more than 60 up with an average of 35 up. Real world speeds, such as backups and uploads are showing around 300 to 500 down and only 30 up. The problem is I only see these speeds on Ookla speed tests. Speed tests routinely show around 500 down and 250 up. I have their Fios service branded FiOptics. I am having an issue with my ISP, Cincinnati Bell. u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
